Restore Datashred leads the charge with installation of EV charging point

This is a significant step forwards on the road map created by Restore Datashred’ s transformation team, a team dedicated to making sure the company achieves Net-Zero by 2035 (dependent on available technology). A large part of this transition is to procure alternative fuel vehicles.

As a fleet-operating company, Restore Datashred recognises the impact of its operations on the environment and is committed to positive transformation through measuring and reducing its carbon footprint. The business is in the process of reviewing fleet requirements and emerging technologies in the commercial vehicle market, including battery-electric and Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that would help convert the fleet to 100% renewable energy sources.

Restore Datashred has partnered with ProGreen to acquire and install the electric charging points, ProGreen being the in-house alternative fuels team of ProHire, Restore Datashred’s current van and truck fleet supplier. ProGreen has been advising the Restore Datashred team on making the change from traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to battery-electric models, offering support and guidance in the new world of alternative fuels and intelligent charging solutions.

Why is this so important?

Each year the 170-strong Restore Datashred fleet travels over 3,700,000 miles and consumes around 1.5 million litres of fuel. Installing EV charging points, and the subsequent trial and purchase of EVs, constitute part of the Restore Group’s ESG strategy, in which they commit to making a year-on-year carbon footprint reduction, reducing carbon emissions and their impact on the environment. As part of this commitment Restore Datashred has partnered with Shell Carbon Offsetting, to drive carbon neutrality. Shell tracks the fleet’s fuel consumption and calculates the C02 emissions, which they then offset through Shell’s global portfolio of nature-based solutions, from afforestation to conservation.

By investing in renewable energy and alternative fuelled vehicles, Restore Datashred will be playing a positive part in reducing global CO2 emissions, improving air quality, and contributing to the global 2050 Net Zero carbon goal – all while maintaining their customer service excellence.
